The CLIMPACT network, consisting of eleven prominent national scientific institutions, namely the Academy of Athens, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, the National Center for Scientific Research "Demokritos", the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Crete, the Polytechnic School of Crete, the ATHENA Research Center, and the National Center for Social Research, with the National Observatory of Athens as the coordinating entity, seeks collaboration with the National Commission for Climate Change, the Climate Change Impact Study Commission of the Bank of Greece, and other relevant initiatives and actions to become a hub of reliable and comprehensive expertise and advisory body for the State and Society. This data project is part of the CLIMPACT research program.

The data were generated from a nationwide telephone survey conducted by the National Center for Social Research (EKKE) during the period of November-December 2020. The survey used a structured questionnaire on a representative sample of the Greek population aged 18-65, aiming to explore the attitudes and opinions of Greek citizens regarding climate change and its impacts. A total of 1,201 complete telephone interviews were conducted in the specially designed laboratory - WebLab of EKKE. The data cover:

  • Understanding the concept of "climate change" by citizens
  • Their views on climate change, its causes, and consequences
  • Environmental behavior
  • Environmental awareness and sensitivity
  • The socio-economic vulnerability of citizens and energy poverty
  • Post-materialistic values
  • Citizens' perceptions of the impacts of climate change, the "risk," and policies for addressing it (such as the development of RES and decarbonization of the Greek economy).
