DEFINITION (1): Cognitive dissonance is a psychological phenomenon, during which, one tends to adjust ones beliefs to justify past actions. This theory derived from Festinger, confirms that individuals are stressed by contrasting cognitive elements, such as mismatch between empirical evidence and old choices, so that they change their beliefs to reduce that sense of discomfort (Festinger, 1975).

DEFINITION (1): The word colonialism comes from the roman “colonia”, which meant farm or settlement and referred to Romans who settled in different areas, but retained their citizenship. Colonialism therefore defines the settlement to another country. The body of people who settle in a new location forms a society that is subject to or linked to their country of origin. This society consists of its original settlers and their descendants, as well as the connection with their “parent” state is maintained (Loomba, 2005).
