DEFINITION (2): Absolutism is considered as a distinct form of monarchy, that prevailed in the European continent and defined a whole era. Its main features are that it coordinates and concentrates power, pushing the political development towards the modern state. While it is often associated with the defense of aristocratic privileges, it nevertheless promoted the conditions for social and economic changes, reinforcing the great transition from feudalism to capitalism (Wilson, 2000).
